The control department has a broad mandate to ensure that only approved goods pass the border. The mission involves conducting customs controls on imports and exports to Sweden, where the Customs Authority looks for goods that violate restrictions and ensures that the correct customs duties and taxes are collected. The control department also has the task of stopping or seriously disrupting organized crime and ensuring competitive neutrality.

About the Position

As a customs officer in an internal control group, you will primarily work with clearance work. You will work in our clearance expedition in Eda, ensuring that companies and individuals comply with customs regulations, among other things by reviewing customs declarations. The work is varied and includes everything from expedition work, administrative tasks, contact with freight forwarders, companies, individuals, and authorities. The work may also involve physical inspections and goods investigations in the commercial goods flow.

As a customs officer, you will work in uniform, make various forms of authority decisions, and meet the public and customers daily. We place great importance on your ability to treat people with respect and understanding, that you have good judgment, and that you are a good representative of the Customs Authority both internally and externally.

Since we are open a large part of the day, every day of the year, we work shifts, which means you need to be comfortable with irregular working hours.

Right now, the Customs Authority is undergoing an exciting but extensive transformation where we have introduced new customs legislation with associated new digital systems, which means you must be curious and interested in learning new things.

It is also important that your values align with the state value framework.

  • At least three years of work experience.
  • Good ability to communicate and express yourself well in spoken and written Swedish and English.
  • A valid driver's license (B).
  • Good physical condition and health as the working hours are irregular, and you will be trained in conflict management.

It is an advantage if you have:

  • Post-secondary education in, for example, behavioral science, social science, forwarding/logistics, criminology/law, or IT/technology.
  • Experience in work that has placed high demands on communication and meeting people.
  • Work experience in case management or administrative tasks.
  • Experience in customs-related work in the last 10 years, e.g., in the forwarding industry or from operations dealing with foreign trade.
  • The ability to communicate fluently in spoken languages other than Swedish, Norwegian, Danish, and English.

Personal Qualities

This position suits you if you can and want to make your own decisions within given frameworks and independently drive your work. The work is done in a team, which requires you to have strong social skills and good collaboration abilities. You are responsible, service-oriented, and have integrity. Other important qualities include the ability to handle large workloads and prioritize what is essential, as well as the ability to solve problems and make decisions with good quality. Furthermore, it is important that you are meticulous and have good judgment. You have a flexible attitude and can quickly adapt to changing conditions.

You should be in good physical shape as you will work shifts and be trained in conflict management, which can be demanding.

We place great importance on personal suitability!
